Updates - Wednesday

My azalea bush.

Hello furriends.  I'm beyond despair tonight as I write this. My sweet little man, Prancer Pie, has fallen ill, too.  I cannot even fathom what is going on.  He had his breakfast, then went to nap.  He refuses to come out, except to drink.  Then, just like Princess, he drinks and drinks.  I have wracked my brain to find a common thread.  I would probably be suspicious of Princeton's illness last week, but he obviously had trauma (bite/sting) to his jaw.  Princess is still resting, showing sum signs that she might become interested in food, but has yet to eat since yesterday.  Again, I thank you for the purrs, pawsitive thoughts and purrayers.  Please keep them coming and any advice is welcome, too.  XOXO

  2. Oh noes! We are purring for PP too, and continue purring for Princess. She should eat something. Perhaps you can tempt her with plain meat baby food (no onions or garlic). Try it on a finger or rub some on her mouth. She could have a kidney infection. Did they do a urine culture and sensitivity? Could they have eaten something they shouldn't have? We are purring hard.

  4. We are stunned. We know you have a good vet, but well, not ALL vets know ALL the same things. We think it is time for a 2nd opinion by a different vet.

  7. Are you sure they did not eat something that is toxic to them? With the Easter holidays and unusual flowers and treats around, is it possible they might have gotten into something? That was actually my first thought when Princess got sick. Or as others suggested, it could be some contagious bug. Whatever it is, I am very concerned about my friends and purring very, very hard for them!

  9. Maybe there is something toxic in the house.
was there anything new brought in? any plants, new paint, any new cleaning chemicals? Do they have access to drink from toilet?

It might be a virus they are catching from one another. I hope it all goes away. Still purraying here!

  13. Huge purrs and crossed paws.

You know, we are wondering about toxins maybe from plants - just like Sparkle says. Or have you changed any cleaning fluids or sprays ? And definitely a second vet visit - maybe a second opinion ? This is all a bit of a coincidence. Whatever happens, we hope it can be sorted really soon. Loads of purrs to everyone.

  14. So sorry!! We will purr hard. The elevated white cells for Princess would seem to point to a virus or something that has been passed along between the cats, though we are sure you will also think hard about the possibility the cats got into eating something they should not have. Chocolate and lilies would be smoking guns with Easter.

  17. I am so sorry to learn PP is also sick. I thought yesterdy ---and I still think today with PP sick too--- that they did indeed get into something. Tell the Vet about the deviled egg mixture too while you're at it although only PP was seen eating it. I agree..a second opinion is vital! Please try to find time to keep us updated. We are very worried.\

  21. I ditto the comment re: a second opinion.

Also, is it possible that the food formula has been changed -- not sure what you give them, but pet food companies do change their "recipes" without consumer awareness. I've had food that the cats have eaten no problem for ages, then the next batch they won't touch. So I'm wondering if there's some sort of contamination.

Or possibly a kitty virus going around that just has to run its course.

If you can seek a second opinion, I say go for it.

Sending lots of hugs and purrs and healing vibes.

  22. Oh noes! We be purrin double time now!

Teri says maybe you are dealing with an intestinal virus since now both kitties are sick and Princess' labs are pretty normal.

Are you giving them sub q fluids or just fluids by mouth? If by mouth, remember they need about 15cc per pound every 24 hrs to help much--that's about 5 ounces for a 10# cat. That's a lot and why giving fluids under the skin is so much easier on you and the kitties.

Yes, Slippery Elm is a good idea, kinda acts like pepcid ac in protecting the tummy.

  23. Gosh, that is too bad that Prancer no feels bad too. We are thinking along the same lines as Sparkle. That maybe they got into something that they shouldn't have gotten into. Anyway, we sure are sending tons and tons of purrs and will tell the donkeys to continue to cross their hooves.Sending lots of hugs to Mom too.

  26. We didn't realise until now that Prancer is sick too - it sounds as though he could have caught a germ
from Princess. We hope they both respond quickly to their meds and start to improve and eat again.

  27. We are wondering the same as others - it sounds like everyone got into something. Except Princess's labs came back ok. We gots our paws crossed and our purrs going loud!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It really sounds like either a virus (that they could pick up from one another) or something they both managed to get into. Any new type of cleaning chemicals for the floors or carpets? I just know you & the doctors will figure this all out real soon but in the meantime, my fur family & I are sending all the purrs we can. Lots & lots of the purrs. Promise.

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh no! we are sending our purrrrs!!!!!!
and hope everyone gets well soon!

  30. Not Prancer too! Time to start thinking something contagious or poison. Have you had any Easter plants around the house? Lilies are VERY toxic to cats. Have you used any household cleaners on your floors? Yes, I'd tell them about the deviled eggs cos some spices make us sick. Purring and purraying for Prancer and Princess. They're my furrends.

  31. We're purring for them both, and you, too!

  34. We are so worried about your babies! My first reaction was something toxic they both could have ingested. I don't know what type of lab work was done. I assume they did check the liver.

  35. Oh dear, dear, dear, this has to be so unsettling for you. We all hoping you can find some answers so all are feeling better soon.
