Prancer Pie Update: 4:10 p.m., CST, I saw the Vet at 3:15 and he was impressed with what the fluids had done for Prancer. He saw a big change in his demeanor. Unfortunately his heart rate is still too high and he still has diarrhea. We are changing his food and this is only his second day of Forti Flora. We took a blood test and is now thinking we may be battling a secondary problem (IBD?) He had several encouraging paths to try today. I am getting a second opinion and checking with our local ( several hrs away) teaching vet hospital. We check in tomorrow for test results and check in Saturday to see if he needs fluids for the weekend. I think we've got everything covered.
I got to bring him home and he purred and talked the whole way. Upon arriving home, he went to hide in his favorite closet. He thinks his leg is broke from the wrap from the IV. I get to remove it in a couple of hours.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the well wishes, purrs, and ideas.
XOXOXOXO
So glad you got more encouraging news this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteSuch good news from you this afternoon. We'll keep purrrrrring and praying that Prancer Pie improves more and more and more!
ReplyDeleteLove, Marilynn, Grace & Company
So glad he's home with you now...sending lots and lots of purrs and hope that you continue to get more encouraging news.
ReplyDeletexo
Keeping up with the mega healing purrz. If you even suspect this is the covenia, make sure your vet reports it. It sounds like he’s trying to say it’s everything but that.
ReplyDeleteHuge purrs, {{hugs}} and lubbins from alla us!!! xoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteWe are sending our best healing purrs to you!!
ReplyDeleteSending more healing purrs from all of us!
ReplyDeleteWe can imagine how happy Prancer Pie, and you, are that he is home. Continued purrs and prayers.

I'm really glad you're getting a second opinion. It's something I would do now in a heartbeat, wish I had done that with Annie at the time. Lots of hugs and continued purrs from the boys. Fingers/paws crossed for treatments that are right for him!
ReplyDeleteHaving access to a teaching hospital is awesome! If anyone would know, it would be them. We hope that all goes well for you and Prancer.
ReplyDeleteWe're so pleased to hear that you have a vet teaching hospital within driving range who can see Prancer and help guide him on a path to feeling better. Lots and lots of purrs for Prancer, and big hugs for you.
ReplyDeleteWe've had Prancer on our minds all afternoon. We're glad he's home which we know has to be a comfort for him and for you. We'll keep praying, the kitties will keep up their purrs and we will truly hope for the very best for our furriend. xx <3
ReplyDeleteYay! Now that is what we call great news! Keep the good reports coming and we will continue to PURR!

We're with you all the way buddy. Your mom is doing everything she can, so now it's up to you to start feeling better. We are thankful for the bit of good news that you did get. I'm purring. M sends prayers and hugs.
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad that Prancer is home now and feeling a bit better.
ReplyDeleteWe think you have a good course of action to take.
Oh we forgot to say we're still purring....
ReplyDeleteI just read the earlier update too. We are purring like crazy but things sound a little better. Having had 2 cats mis-diagnosed before, I highly recommend a second opinion, that saved our two. We love you Prancer, please whip this thing in the butt.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that Prancer's home. And that the vet seemed more optimistic. And that you're getting a second opinion. And that I have LOADS more purrs left to give him!
ReplyDeleteI am very glad that the vet is more optimistic, and that you are getting a second opinion. (((hugs))) and purrs.
ReplyDeleteGlad the news is better and that you got to take Prancer Pie home. Hugs to you x
ReplyDeleteContinued purrs to you both!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear he's home with you. I'm also glad to hear the fluids seemed to help quite bit. I think it's great you're consulting with the teaching vet hospital. Praying for his full recovery.
ReplyDeleteI just read your last post about the hyper-t and only living 2 years, which I never heard of. Lucy had hyper-t and her vets never, ever said that (she died of bladder cancer, not related to the hyper-t at all). She had high blood pressure, which they did say was a side effect of hyper-t, especially if hyper-t isn't treated. Has he been tested for that? That put a cuff on them just like for humans. I just wonder if that may be the cause of the rapid heartbeat. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending all sorts of purrs for sweet Prancer Pie!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, when Mommy first gave us Forti Flora, it caused Bella and Deli to have diarrhea for a few days.
It's good to hear Prancer is back home with you. Yay for a second opinion. It sounds like the vet is trying to find any cause he can except for the Covenia even though he started Prancer on probiotics.
ReplyDeleteStill sending mega healing purrs and hugs your way.

So glad he is home and feeling better. The hardest part is trying to figure out what's going on! Feel better very very soon Prancer!
ReplyDeleteWow, we cannot believe everything that has happened in such a short amount of time and P.P.'s sudden turn. We are super glad that he is back home even if he is hiding out in the closet. We will be purring and praying non-stop that you can get him healthy again very soon. We know you are a nervous wreck. Mom says that P.P. and everyone at your house will be in her thoughts and prayers as well. Purrs and paw-pats, Giulietta, Fiona, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteVery pleased to wake up to this.Prancer is home where he can be safe and purry, and hopefully his broken leg is fixed! Second opinion is good. If there is IBD, then that can be managed often with diet - that takes time to find the right food - and meds. Stran has it. His diarrhea was explosive and very smelly for a long time and now he is much better. This was diagnosed about 18 months ago I think.
ReplyDeletePaws crossed big time. Will you give him special scritches and cuddles from his Ginnish buddies please.
Oh Prancer Pie, we is glad you gots some good news. Keep getting better, and then your mom won't worry so.
ReplyDeleteSending lots and lots of purrs your way!

We are sending purrs and prayers for our friend Prancar Pie and Mom too!
ReplyDeleteIt is so stressful to have an ill kitty.
Reading through the last month of updates were are surprised at that comment by the vet about prancer and 2 years. Hyperthyroid is easily controlled issue in humans and cats.
If he was allergic to methimazole, which is shown by symptoms that he is showing, radio ablation is a good alternative. Dad says that is the way he would go if one of us had this issue (Dad is handicapped and if we run UTB or some such he cannot get us let alone hold us in his one good arm)
Here is a site that has info but you probably have this.

ReplyDeleteI am glad that Prancer Pie is home with you, even if he is in the closet. Bambino came home with one of those leg wraps and limped all over until I took it off. I am so glad that you are near a teaching vet hospital and can get a second opinion. I hope the diarrhea goes away soon. Purrs and prayers coming your way from all of us.
ReplyDeleteI hope you read the link I left on FB. Diarrhea is a common side effect of covenia poisoning. You need to get him somewhere to treat him for the poisoning. Unfortunately, there is no way to get it out of his system. Sending more mega healing purrz.
ReplyDeleteLots of hugs and purrs Prancer Pie! We are glad you are home!

Holding you close in our thoughts and our hearts at this time
I am so sorry that I have only just learned how poorly Prancer Pie has been. This is a really rough old do for any pussycat.
ReplyDeleteMy ape had a cat who lasted 9 years post hyperthyroid diagnosis, so that would sway the vet's average a bit I think, do not lose hope.
The ape remembered something from the past. There is a blog called
The Big Piney Woods Cats (they dont' blog much now) and one of the Mom Toni's cats had a problem that went on and on and eventually was traced to the particular version of the hyperthyroid drug, which over the years had actually caused the problems the little puss was suffering from.
The blog is
http://thecalicogirls.blogspot.co.uk/
..there is an email link in the panel top right.
It might be worth an email to enquire if Toni might have some wisdom to share to help out.
The ape has seen cats respond very differently to different thyroid medications and also to different methods of administering them (skin gel vs tablet) It might be worth asking the vet about the drug Prance Pie takes for his thyroid.
I am sending my best and loudest rumbly purrs and lots of love to the Mom too, because she is probably worn out at such a worrying time. It sounds like she's got it all covered though.
So Prancer Pie, hear my rumbly purrs and get well soon fella!
