UPDATE: Hi efurrybody. First, let me thank efurryone again fur those purrs. Princess has just eaten fur the first time in 36 hrs. Now, the breath holding that the puking doesn't restart. (it was plain chicken, I boiled myself.) This was the first thing she even wanted anything to do with. She is drinking lots and using the litter box. (I'm over-zealous bout these things.) She is slowly returning to purring and pre-sickness habits, such as face-tapping, etc. (mine)
Now, Prancer Pie is still in the awful throes of this illness. He wants nothing to do with anyone and hides, only to come out to puke and/or drink large amounts of water. (which strangely neither one haf puked) They are both on Reglen and antiobiotics. Princess is also on Prednisone.
Lab results, onset, and Prancer coming down sick, really points to one of two things: virus/bug OR food contamination. Vet is concerned about the latter. Both of these furbabies are HUGE Fancy Feast fans. No recalls we can find. No Easter lilies or chocolate here. We're empty nesters and NO fresh plants or flowers are allowed in our home due to furbabies. We haf gone ofur efurrything from cleaning fluids (which I am cautious about) to dish detergent. Nothing has changed. I appreciate all the ideas efurryone throws at me. We've nefur (in 17 years) had a multiple illness such as this. Thank you fur the purrs and purrayers and keep them coming, please. XOXO - The Mommy
how scary - but thanks for the update and letting us know not only how everyone is doing but that you are still in search of a cause....we will continue to send purrs!!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping Princess keeps it down and keeps eating. We know kitties are different from pups, but lately it seems like there have been a lot of sick pups with no diagnosis, seems like there are lots of viruses going around. Wish you could find a definitive answer so you could put your mind to rest.
ReplyDeleteThey are lucky to have such a wonderful and caring nurse as you are.
Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
The fact that Princess wanted to eat is good news and I will purr and purr that it stays down. It sounds like P-Pie is one day behind her & will perk up by tomorrow? We is purrayin' for that for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt is very good that he is drinking though, because dehydration is such a bad thing. I hope BOTH your babies feel better verreh, verreh soon. XOXOXO
We are purring and praying for Princess and Prancer Pie! And for you and the vets, too.
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like it could be food related. Hopefully with the boiled chicken, they'll both feel better real quick.
ReplyDeleteI always worry about possible pet food contamination which is why I started homecooking for effuryone. :)
We will continue to send lots of purrrrs your way. We are so worried about your babies. I know how helpless you feel. I just went through that with Knuckles a few weeks ago. He was down for a week, but luckily Bugsy didn't get it too. I would have been frantic. I think it's a really good sign that Princess is showing some signs of perking up.... Anyway, we just want you to know that we are sending you our love.
ReplyDeleteHang in there and we will continue to watch for updates.
pawhugs and lots of love... Lou, Max, Bugsy and Knuckles.
That would be horrid if their FF was what was making them sick, but a good idea for you to consider all possibilites. Maybe it is some sort of Calici virus or similar, that came home with Princeton, or on the carrier, or shoes or whatever from the vet's office. It IS good they are drinking! Princess, you keep that food down, sweetie.
ReplyDeleteEven though I was concerned they might have gotten into something, I figured you guys were pretty careful about what is in your house (my human is the same way). If it's a bug, I hope it passes soon - it sounds like Princess is better, but Prancer is about a day or so behind her. I haven't heard of any food recalls either, or any other kitties getting sick like this.
ReplyDeleteI'm continuing to purr for both of them.
OMC I LOVE Fancy Feast. Hope it's not that!!! Thanx for the update. I'm gonna keep on purring and purraying for Prancer and Princess that this bug will pass and they'll be themselves again.
ReplyDeletewouldn't surprise me if the fancy feast proved to be the culprit. every cat food co. has had a bad batch now and again. similar to our food poisoning.
ReplyDeletesending best thoughts & purrs.
xoxo

Mom and I are so very sorry about the nasty bug/virus/bad foodable thing that Princess and Prancer are dealing with. We hope and purr Prancer will start making a turn around like Princess very soon. Give them both a great big hug for us. We have no advice to offer as we have never had more than one cat at a time.
ReplyDeleteHugs, purrs and nosetaps.
Madi and Mom
PS
ReplyDeleteDo Precious and Princeton eat Fancy Feast?
M&M
That is great news that Princess is starting to eat. Sure hope that Prancer starts to eat too. Sending tons more purrs. And prayers too. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCome on Prancer, please get better, we are all sending lots of purrs.
ReplyDeleteWe're still keeping our paws crossed. We eat FF here, too, for dinner, and we haven't had any trouble. Sometimes the girls turn up their noses for unknown reasons, but we've been fine. Course, could be a different batch or something, too, so this probably means nothing for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat about dry food? Could that be the culprit? Maybe it was just a bad bag. You might try something else once the kids start eating that again.
We're glad there is some progress. Food contamination seems the most likely source to us too. You have our continued purrayers.
ReplyDeletePoor babies, we are praying that they will be better soon!!!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! We didn't get chance to do much visiting yesterday or today and didn't know Prancer Pie was sick too. We are glad Princess is starting to eat, and are purring for them both to be better very quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh we didn't know Prancer was sick too now! How scary this must be! We're thinking they must have gotten into something they shouldn't have.
ReplyDeleteWe're purring that they both feel better real soon!!
Continued purrs and purrayers from us. Once everyone is back to normal and healthy, our human suggests a shot or two of something strong for your mom.
ReplyDeleteCould be a bad batch, yes...Also still think it could be a virus. Either way, we have paws and fingers crossed it's all over and done with very soon.
(((Hugs)))
Oh, my, we didn't know Prancer Pie is ill now. We so hope the med words for him too and the vet can figure out what is going on. So sorry you are all going through this. It's horrible when even one furry is ill. Pawhugs!
ReplyDeleteWe are purring for Princess to continue recovering and for Prancer to start recovering!
ReplyDeletePoor little tykes! I hope and pray they will be better soon and you will discover the cause xox
ReplyDeleteI was sent over here by Max , Knuckles and Bugsy.
ReplyDeleteMe think it´s virus , since you count up sooo many thing´s it can´t be they have been eating.
Hope you both will be back to normal soon again !
OH dear oh dear this is the first we knew dear Prancer was sick too. How terribly worrisome for you (and all of us too). WE Are purring and purring and purring some more. WE hope that he rebounds as quickly as Princess. And we hope that it is something that can be determined.
ReplyDelete(((hugs)))

Healing purrs for Prancer Pie and Princess we hopes they are both well soon.
ReplyDeleteJust because there isn't a recall doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with the food. You might want to ask the vet if he can test it.
We are purring very hard for Princess and Prancer to get well!! We hope the Vet can determine the cause, but if not, then help you kitties get well.
ReplyDeleteHugs and purrs to you kitties and your folks too :)
Purrs Tillie and Georgia,
Tiger,Treasure and JJ
Our prayers are with you....it is so awful when our precious furkids are ill. Sure hope that you will be able to breathe easier soon and we hope everyone is feeling better soon!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope Prancer's illness follows Princess and he starts to get better soon, too. We're purring for both!
ReplyDeleteI am just getting caught up. I am glad Princess is eating a little. My paws are crossed for Prancer Pie.
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
Oh my goodness both babies sickly! Purrs and big hugs they both return to good health soon!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Prancer Pie...mommy and I are so worried about you and for Princess but right now especiay for you. My mommy feeds me wet Fancy Feast but I eat something else dry. I hope and pray all will return to normal. Love and huggles to all of you.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by again to let you know we are thinking of you and hope the day has been a better one for all.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Sending lots of purrs.
ReplyDeleteThis is so worrying! We are all purraying that both Prancer and Princess get over their (for lack of a better word) bug and that Princeton does not fall prey too!
ReplyDeleteAt least they are drinking water!
Kisses
Nellie, Kozmo, and Mommy
OMC! We are so relieved to hear things are better. How awful for you all. We're purring that this is the start of a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteWe are purring hard. We hope it is not the food and just not discovered. That would be horrible. Our purrs to you and the kitties.
ReplyDeleteI send all of u lofs of luv. {luv luv luv luv luv}. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are so pleased that (crosses paws) Princess seems to be recovering and are all rooting for Prancer of course. Mega purrs here. We hope you weren't offended by our suggestions - sounds like your house is as cat friendly as humanly possible. And we are glad your vet is taking this so seriously. Paws all crossed here - and keep us posted please! Nose rubs to you all, good buddies.
ReplyDeleteThat has got to be scrary! Sending healing purrrrrrsss & comforting purrrrrayers to you all.
ReplyDeleteAre they allowed outside? If so, they might have gotten into something raiding a trashbin or something.
Any chance the house/yard got sprayed for bugs?
Just guessing, but thought these might be worth mentioning, just in case.
ppuurrrrrrrrsss
Oh we're so sorry to hear Prancer is sick too! Poor furries. I'm fresh out of ideas. The only time Katie has been that sick...throwing up and all...was when she ate ribbon. Yeah, THAT was something alright. But the vet knew very quickly that it was ingestion of a foreign object. We'll be sending you purrs and prayers that they both feel better VERY soon.

Thank goodness Princess is taking some food now and seems to be over the worst of her sickness now. We hope Prancer will quickly follow suit and they can recover together and you can start to breathe easier.
