Our eat-in kitchen |
About 18 months ago, driven by the economy, physical limitations, and emotions, our families
sold our homes (we lived close to each other on our farm), hired an architect, fired him, re-hired a second architect and went for it. We just told him we wanted a home with private quarters for each family, but a kitchen and family room to enjoy together. We also had a safe room added for storm protection. (a must for this part of the country) Our safe room doubles as a media room, too.
Side by side, side-by-side refrigerators. Heh-heh! |
We each have a set of suites, but that seems too fancy so we call them "sections" (like an orange).
Everybody has a bedroom, tiny sitting room, and bathroom. So the final tally is: 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths with double toilets, one half bathroom, kitchen, den, two laundry rooms and safe room/media room. We also have a garage on each end of the house. Well, that's how it got started, and how we live. If anybody has any questions, we'll gladly answer them and talk about our decision to do the Big Move the rest of this week.
We hope everybody has a great Tuxie Tuesday, now we'll wrap up with what y'all really came here for:

Move along, can't you see it's Daddy/Diva time? Mommy you need to remember...TUXIES RULE!!!
Pee Ess -Here's the breakdown of residents here at the PONDEROSA. (that's what we call it)
- Me, my husband, Prancer, Precious, Princeton, and Chi-Chi.
- The Nana, the Pawpaw, and their three weenie dogs.
- The single sister with college age niece and their menagerie.
That house is too shiny! (*jealous) You kitties have to get busy :)
ReplyDeleteBut there's no such thing as *sections* in the kitty world! Do the kitties get to wander the entire Ponderosa?
ReplyDeleteThe house is very luxury to us!!!
ReplyDeleteOur Mama is drooling over the two side by side refrigerators and the kitchen area.
ReplyDeleteYep, you kitties have your work cut out for you in spreading the furs around.

Sounds like a great idea. As I have got older, my family would be quite happy to do the same thing.
ReplyDeleteWe look forward to seeing more of your lovely home.

This actually sounds like a pretty nice set-up! We have an upstairs that is actually its own apartment. My human's dad and his two cats are living up there for a few months... I am the only one who met the two cats ('cause I snuck in!) and I did not like one of them at all!
ReplyDeleteWell I'll be Prancer that is one fine looking home and very well thought out. I love the way you have things arranged in sections too.
ReplyDeleteOMCs I have side by side fridge envy...I bet those hold lots of Fancy Feast.
Hugs madi your bFFF
beautiful house and it's really really cool how it's laid out and how you live all together yet kind of separate. you guys rock!
ReplyDeleteIwhat a wonderful arrangement. I wish I had the same here. I would love that.
ReplyDeleteThe house looks great. But the Tuxie that rules looks even better.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
What a beautiful home and great idea! Love the two refrigerators!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. Beautiful home. We'd love to see more pictures.
ReplyDeleteLiving together but separately is a great idea - you can all have your own space when you want it.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
What a lovely thing to do to keep everyone together and yet have some privacy when wanted. Beautiful rooms too.
ReplyDeleteThe house, what we see of it, looks gorgeous. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe think that's a great idea, actually. Separate living quarters to be alone when one wants peace and quiet, but also common areas like the kitchen and dining area. Seems like a great solution to us!
What an interesting way to live. You always have company! At our place, it's just momma, the kitties, my sissy, and me. We loves going to visit Grandpa and Grandma for more company!
ReplyDeleteWow VERY nice! But yes, I think Precious there is REALLY telling you she'd had enough of the spotlight hogging! MOL

Beautiful home, great planning, we love it. Welcome to all and happy life together.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
Your place sure looks nice!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a wonderful idea! I wish I had the same sort of arrangement...close, but private. Where do the weenie dogs fit in the hierarchy?
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart thing to do. That's how it used to be in the not so distant past. Our home had at least three generations living in it when it was built 101 years ago. Mom says she likes that you all have your own space and then the communal spaces. Do kitties and weenie dogs ever spend time together? Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea and your home looks lovely too.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea and your house is beautiful...we wanna know if the kitties have run of the whole place. If not, they should. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and one I think more families will consider in the future. With land and housing costs increasing, it makes financial sense.
ReplyDeleteI can see where it is beneficial in other ways too. My parents lived four hours away from me, and when they were ill or needed assistance it was an tremendous amount of time to get there. I'm sure it provides peace of mind for all of you.
It sort of reminds of the homes we saw in Cuba. There a story is added on the house for each generation. I assume the oldest live on the ground floor :-) Not only does it save costs but it keeps the family together.
You have a lovely home! Thanks for sharing.
If it works out for you, go for it. Extended families can do wonders.
ReplyDeleteConcats on the new digs which is 1 million times bigger than my condo. Best of health to everyone.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like fun! We has lived with lots of family (in the past) and is now just a couple. So long as there is privacy and respect, it is really not too difficult.
ReplyDeleteKisses
Nellie
What a beautiful house. Mama said the placemats looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteWe hope you will share more gorgeous pictures Prancer! Mom was trying to convince her Mom and Dad to add on to our house and do the same thing, but with our Daddy being sick we aren't sure how long we will continue to live here. But great job on a beautiful home!
