Monday's Study In Herpetology

Is this the face of a killer?

The day started innocently enough with us kits lounging on the catio by 7 a.m (CST).
By 7:48 Preslee abandoned the catio with such a clatter that the Daddy arose from
the bed to see what was the matter. (heh-heh)

The rest of us kits, (Precious, Princeton, & Prudie) had cornered something small and
were converging upon it.
Daddy yelled to Mommy (who was still abed...) to get his glasses.
When the Daddy could see what was causing the commotion - he yelled for the something sharp.
Kittehz, it was a snake - and Precious was trying to take him down!
This can not be allowed as we have several poisonous snakes here in SE Oklahoma.
He struck at Precious and Mommy made terrible Mommy sounds.
So Daddy shooed us indoors (Precious was reluctant to let her quarry go...)
then he killed it with a shovel!

No photos were obtained as the Mommy was dancing from one foot to another.

We didn't even get to sniff it.

Oh well, at least it makes good blog fodder.

Have a great Monday efurrybody and purrs, y'all!

UPDATE;  No clue what type of snake it was, far too mangled to identify...

  1. Now I have to admit, if you want something nasty caught, a girlcat is the best. Well done Precious. Do you know what type of nasty hissy thing it was?
And was it big enough for a nice snake skin handbag????

  2. Whoa! I wonder what kind of snake it was!

  3. GAH!!!!! Outdone by a female Feline... we'll never live it down... although Felix once slew a sidewinder rattlesnake!

    Ashamedly yrs, CC and Rupert.

  4. Oh my COD! That was extra-scary!!! We are glad your Dad made it deaded. Poor Mommy--we can only imagine those terrible Mommy sounds! Like from a horror moobie, we think.

  5. WOW! We have never seen a snake and we do not have poisonous ones.
Good thing your Dad dispatched it quickly!
    Purrs Georgia and Julie,
    Treasure and JJ

  6. WOW! This would have made a great action movie. Precious must seriously be feeling great about herself. But we too wanna know... what kind was it?

  7. We are glad all were OK, except for that snake!

  8. That was scary! Glad all kitties and humans are safe.

    Emma and Buster

  9. Ohhhhhhhhhhh the only thing we like that crawls is babies.
And as for all the other crawlers if they stay clear of us we mind our beeswax but once they invade our space it is shovel to head combat.
    Hugs madi your bfff
Precious you are brave and a little crazed. MOL MOL MOL
We hope Grandpa is better we missed you

  10. Don't be messing with any poison critters!

  11. We always looked first before whacking; however, with over zealous feline hunters involved, we understand the need to demolish the evil serpent!

  12. That is scary, I am glad your Dad rescued you before anyone got hurt.

  13. Whoa! Yippee for Dads being there to put a stop to that!

  14. precious....de bass terd snake had noe biznezz bee in in yur catio...we hope him dinna bite ewe. we gotta say ewe haz way..WAY mor couragenezz than uz.. coz we wooda been runnin like flamez waz upon uz....we canna stand them things...high paws two ewe precious; ewe R az feerce as de panther ☺☺☺♥♥♥ & high paws two yur dad !!!

    Woos - Ciara and Lightning

  16. Well done Precious! We get vipers here which are poisonous, (the only British poisonous snake) and I have caught several over the years. The first time I brought one home, mum bashed it on the head with a sledgehammer.

  17. Yikes! And we thought we had it bad fighting off a 2 headed BatCat. :)

  18. Your Dad was very brave to tackle that viper - we would have run away to hide.

  19. a snake!! woh. good thing you guys made such a clatter!

  20. ewwwwwww.....a snake...........ewwwww......our mom would have been screaming and a carrying on you would have heard her in Okla. stella rose

  21. Oh PRECIOUS! STRUCK at you. And I would be making terrible mommy sounds TOO uno matter which of you were there in danger of being bitten. So grateful you are all right, all of you.

  22. Thank cod your wonderful daddy came to the rescue!

  23. We are glad ya are all OK (and that Mommies feet arent worn out jumping around). We had one that looked dangerous years ago and TBT killed it as quickly (humanely) as he could.
